Welcome to Coffee Ring!
I have no idea what I am doing.
Just being honest, I have never had a practitioner's blog. I have no idea how they are "supposed" to function. This is also a strength. I will inevitably be reading more blogs and reflections, so I will get better at this with practice. In the meantime, I ask for grace as I try to figure all this out.
So what is this project? I'm still figuring that out. Reflective practices have always been at the core of my pedagogy and beliefs in defining a "good" educator. For years my professors at Kennesaw State University and the Kennesaw Mountain Writing Project have been advocating for teachers and writers to blog about their experiences and thinking. As I begin my journey towards my doctorate, I believe this will be an important place for me to capture that experience.
What's in a name?
Sitting at
Boulder Creek Coffee on Friday, I was thinking about the consequence of putting my coffee on top of this beautiful stack of first semester textbooks. Coffee rings: like reflective practices, rings are circular and part of a cycle of continuous improvement. Coffee will be the fuel that helps me to survive this whole process. It has also been a massive part of my journey thus far. Coffee rings are also permanent and leave their mark on paper, which I hope to accomplish further. So how will this work? I'm not sure; I truly have no idea. I have never had a successful blog (defined by consistent publication), nor have I ever tried to reflect publicly or openly about what I've learned in my educational journey. I am plagued (so cliche) by worrying about if my writing would be of interest, if this would be of help to anyone, or if it will even be useful to frame my thinking and learning for an audience of readers on the internet.
